Zoetrope

Zoetrope is an equitment used in the old days in the cinemas, used to show and create animations. The video above is an example of a zoetrope at work, by using a comic strip and drawing a little ball onto it going up and down. On paper it looks simple but then once it is put onto the zoetrope and spun around it looks like a moving animation.

Persistance of vision is when we see the flickering light whlist watching the movie on the screen we beileve that it is continuois and because of the flashes that we keep seeing on the scree of at least every one-tenth of a second, thanks to the persistance of this vision we cannot tell when the flash ends or starts.

The Disadvantages of using a Zoetrope is that you could break the illusion by simply looking at the top of the drum. Another disadvantage is that the narrative has to be circular and the freeze frames are limited.

The Advantages of using a Zoetrope is that it animate the simple comic strips used.

All channel idents have in common is that at the end of the indent they all have the logo showing at the end, for example sky one after showing the trees and show them growing we see the logo 'Sky One' telling us that we are watching the shows on Sky one.

They also have calm instrumentals with no voiceovers, so that the voiceovers can talk about the show comming on next, for example e4 shows the animated background with an instrumentals before the voiceover comes on to talk about the next show.

Organizing files on final cut

step 1: import your files onto the fcp

Step 2: create a bin using the keys; Command, shift, B and label the bin and then put the files into the bin

Step 3: once you've put all the files into a bin and labelled them, you then label the footage or audio as good or bad
